2006 Meet Recap: The weather turned out to be much better for the 3rd edition of the Twilight Track meet and participation was way up. A total of 89 runners participated in this year’s event and 22 meet records were broken. Thanks so much to the over 20 volunteers who gave up their night for us to have such a great meet! In the Kid’s events, Jalexis Chandler stole the show winning the 100 and 400 meters while setting meet records in both events by large margins. Eli Smith and Kamron Potter also set meet records in the 100 and 400 meters, respectively. In the Junior events, Matthew Akenhead rolled to victory in the 100 and 400 meters setting meet records in both events while Reid Harrison set a new meet record in the 800 meters and Keith Buell set a new meet record in the 1 mile. On the girls side, Taryn Burgess won the 100, 400, and 1 mile events while setting records in both the 100 and 400 meters. Maggie Buell won the 800 meters. The Master’s events were exciting to watch this year with very close races in the 100, 400 and 1 mile. The 100 was won in meet record time by Jeff Garrett. Andrew Bailey set meet records in both the 400 and 1 mile while out kicking his opponents. Terry Thomas also set a meet record in the 800 on his way to victory. Ed Ahlmeyer won the 5K. On the women’s side, Cheryl Spelce won the 400 meters in a new meet record time. The Adult events were also very close races. Josh Aycock and Tara Crandall both won the 100 meters in new meet record times. Kate Clark and Zack McClelland also both won the 400 in meet record times. Heath White won the 800 meters in a new meet record time. Linda Scavarda was the women’s winner in the 800. Both Dennis Eaton and Kate Clark defended their 1 mile titles from last year while Heath White and Sydney Childers won the 5K. The DMR was the most anticipated event of the night and it did not disappoint. First Place - Florence took the title in a new meet record time of 11:32. First Place - Huntsville had the lead going into the final leg, but Heath White ran a new PR for the 1600 to bring home the win for the Florence team. For the first time in the event’s history, an all girl’s team participated in the DMR. First Place - Huntsville took that title in a record time of 14:40.
